How Well Do You Know the Tour du Mont-Blanc?
It may be less technical than the GR20 or closer than the W Trek in Patagonia, but the Tour du Mont-Blanc still requires solid skills. Knowledge of the mountain environment and good physical fitness are essential. Before diving headfirst into this adventure, here are a few key points to consider.
The Tour du Mont-Blanc is a multi-day trek crossing three countries: France, Italy, and Switzerland. The trails are well-marked, and mountain huts offer accommodation, but don’t be fooled—this is still an alpine environment. You’ll need to factor in unpredictable weather, snow conditions, and the state of the trails. Some sections can be technically challenging, and the elevation gain is significant.
Most mountain huts are open from June 15 to September 15. It’s crucial to call ahead to book and check with hut managers for up-to-date trail conditions. Snow patches (névés) can remain until mid-July, making certain sections tricky or even dangerous.

Whympr: Paper and Digital Guidebooks Working Hand in Hand
You may already know Whympr, the Chamonix-based app that brings together all the tools needed to plan a mountain outing. Its approach? Collaborating with many guidebook publishers to offer digital versions of routes.
Digital and paper are not in opposition; they complement each other. This is the vision of Tim MacLean, CEO of Whympr, which led to the creation of Topos Pro. The idea? Providing digital guidebooks tailored to the app for all outdoor activities: hiking, ski touring, climbing, mountaineering…
A Network of Publishers Across France
Whympr partners with many publishers to expand its Topos Pro collection:
- VTOPO: Les Calanques, Belledonne, Gorges du Destel (hiking, climbing)
- CQFD Éditions: Verdon (climbing)
- Ekiproc: Arves Valley, Aravis, Giffre, Foron, and Risse valleys (climbing)
- JMEditions: Chamonix (mountaineering)
- Éditions Vamos: Outdoor activities in the Chamonix valley
Fair Compensation for Authors
Just like with a printed book, a portion of Topos Pro sales is given back to the authors. This model not only compensates their work but also supports the maintenance of natural sites, such as climbing cliffs.
The Tour du Mont-Blanc in Both Paper and Digital Formats
