Guidebook Publisher: How to Sell Your Guidebooks on Whympr?
Whympr is an app that brings together outdoor content (hiking, climbing, ski touring, mountain biking, mountaineering) to help people plan and share their outings.
We also offer Pro Guidebooks (called Pro Topos): guidebooks created by publishers and route developers, available in digital format, for individual purchase or as part of a pack, directly from the app’s store.
Today, we already work with: Gilles Brunot, covering climbing in the Arve Valley and the Aravis; Les Éditions Vamos, covering all outdoor activities around Mont Blanc; Michel Piola, for climbing in the Mont Blanc massif; VTOPO, for climbing and hiking in Belledonne and the surrounding areas; Les Éditions Andapura, for treks such as the Tour du Mont-Blanc and the Grande Traversée des Alpes; and CQFD, for climbing in the Verdon… just to name a few.
The good news?
You can also sell your guidebooks as a publisher, with no commission charged by Whympr.
Here’s how it works 👇

ZERO COMMISSION ON SALES
The business model is unique: Whympr takes no commission on Pro Guidebook sales. In other words, the publisher or route developer receives 100% of the sale proceeds, minus the 15% commission charged by the App Stores, for content published on Whympr.
Compensation
- No commission is taken from your sales.
- Only the 15% app store fees (App Store / Google Play), which are non-negotiable, apply to any sale made through the app.
- The remaining amount from each sale goes entirely to the publisher.
The steps
- A first video call to get to know each other, answer any questions, and agree on which guidebooks to make available in digital format.
- Signing of an agreement between both parties.
- Access to a dedicated back office, with training on how to use the tool to create your guidebooks on Whympr.
- Professional Guidebook additions and updates, at the pace that works best for the publisher.
- Sales revenue paid out once a year.
- In some exceptional cases, Whympr can also handle the conversion of guidebooks into digital format directly, without using the back office.
Once you’re familiar with the tool, adding a guidebook takes less than two minutes.

To go further
Whympr can also generate QR codes for individual routes or topo packs, which can be included in printed guidebooks: a simple scan of the code gives readers direct access to the Professional Guidebook in the app.
One approach we recommend is to offer the Professional Guidebook to customers who purchase the printed version.
This service, free for the user, adds value to the printed guidebook while also giving it an additional presence in the digital space.
This is what we do, for example, with our publishing house, Éditions Vamos.
