New Winter Satellite Maps Now Available on Whympr: Belledonne & Zermatt
After launching our winter satellite map for the Mont Blanc massif last December, Whympr continues to enhance its mapping experience to help you better plan and enjoy your ski touring and alpine skiing adventures.
Two new winter satellite maps are now available in Whympr Premium:
- The Belledonne massif (Les Sept Laux & Chamrousse)
- The Zermatt region (Matterhorn & Mont Rose)
With these new high-resolution winter satellite maps, you get access to incredibly detailed imagery captured in real winter conditions. This provides a clear and realistic view of ski resorts, slopes, ridgelines, and glaciers.
Whether you’re into ski touring or alpine skiing, these maps help you better analyze terrain, visualize slope steepness, understand aspect and exposure, and plan your routes more efficiently.
Belledonne: A Top Destination for Ski Touring
The Belledonne massif, located near Grenoble, is one of the most popular areas for ski touring in France.
With this new winter satellite map, you can explore iconic routes such as Grand Colon, Croix de Belledonne or Pic de la Belle Étoile
The winter satellite imagery in Belledonne features a resolution of 50 cm per pixel. The higher the resolution, the more precisely you can observe terrain details and surface features.

Zermatt: High-Altitude Skiing at Its Best
The Zermatt map covers a legendary region at the heart of the Swiss glaciers, featuring the resorts of Saas Fee and Breuil-Cervinia around the Matterhorn and the Monte Rosa massif.
It is a must-visit destination for ski touring and high-altitude alpine skiing. You can plan major routes such as the Monte Rosa Haute Route, the Breithorn, or the glacier routes around Zermatt.
The resolution of the Zermatt winter satellite image is 30 cm per pixel. The higher the resolution, the more detailed the terrain features you can observe.

An enhanced 3D experience thanks to LiDAR
Just like the HD Mont Blanc winter satellite map, these new winter maps are also powered by Whympr’s new LiDAR 3D engine.
LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is a technology that allows for exceptionally precise terrain modeling and provides a realistic 3D visualization of mountain relief.
In practice, you can explore slopes, ridges, and valleys as if you were there, better understand the topography, and refine your preparation for ski touring trips in Belledonne or Zermatt, particularly around the Matterhorn and Monte Rosa.
A real asset for analyzing the terrain, anticipating key sections, and visualizing your route as if you were there.
Available now on Whympr
The Belledonne and Zermatt winter maps are available today in the app with a Whympr Premium subscription or the Outdoor Pack.
What’s next? We want to continue expanding these winter satellite maps to other mountain ranges around the world. Your experience and feedback directly help us build the next version!
